Estimation of CPD hours of ETPLAS modules by Spanish National Committee (CEPAFIC) and Spanish National Research Council (CSIC)

The e-learning courses hosted on the ETPLAS website correspond to theoretical modules on EU-functions defined by Directive 2010/63/EU. However, there is no impediment for any of said modules, or any others hosted on the ETPLAS website to be recognised as CPD, by employers or Competent Authorities.

In order for any course to be recognised as CPD, the number of training hours must be defined in the certificates. Nonetheless, the European Commission’s guidance document on the Education & Training Framework in laboratory animal science does not define a given number of training hours for each of the EU-function modules.

In an effort to recognize the six current ETPLAS e-learning modules as CPD, a working group within the Spanish National Committee (Spanish National Committee for the protection of animal under experimental procedures, CEPAFIC), with the collaboration of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), assembled a team of N=24 volunteers to complete the e-learning courses (some or all of them), to estimate for future reference the training time required for each module. Based on the median timeĀ  obtained, the following table is proposed:

We encourage trainees to refer to this table as a reference for the number of hours assigned to each of the e-learning modules currently available on the ETPLAS website.
